An Evening of Music & Wine -
Summer Event in aid of Great Ormond Street Hospital
Held on 18th June 2014
An evening of choral vocal and instrumental music raised several thousand pounds for Great Ormond Street. Ensemble 42 gave the guests a spectacular performance in the magnificent surroundings of St. Mary le Bow and included a short recital of music from the Renaissance, Imperial Russia and the 20th Century English. After the concert Louis Latour Agencies presented a tasting of 4 delicious white wines from the old and new worlds.
The programme started with Easter joy in Taverner’s sixteenth century Oxford, then moved to Handel’s depiction of the lush countryside of the Persian Empire. The centrepiece of the recital was Sir Arnold Bax’s choral masterpiece ‘This Worldes Joie’. Composed in 1922. This was followed by an aria by Handel, an emotional farewell to Russia by Rachmaninoff, a mournful reflection on old age by Chesnekov, then a joyful piece by Bach.
All the services were donated, and all proceeds went to help provide children and their families with vital expertise, equipment and care. This event would not be possible without the assistance of the generous sponsors: Louis Latour Agencies, TFG Systems, Cooper Murray, Thomson Reuters, Pulsant, and the church of St Mary le Bow.
